RBW's Beth has taken the Top Fuel 8 WSD demo bike on a few adventures.
Here she shares with us her experiences on the bike...
I have been fortunate enough to be able to use the Top Fuel 8 WSD over the winter. I was very excited to get out on it and it has certainly lived up to my expections and more! I usually ride road, so I was keen to get out amongst nature and ditch the traffic for a bit over the winter.
The Top Fuel has taken me on a number of adventures from local forestry and over mountain rides at Smilog, to trying out some of the runs at Afan Argoed (brave for me!) and even a few cyclocross races thrown in for variety!
I have ridden a couple of women-specific hardtail and full suspension bikes in the Trek range before, namely the Skye SL and Lush, but this one feels lighter and also climbs better. There is a good range of gears and both the front and rear suspension can be locked out if needed, to help you climb faster on less rocky sections. As a relative newbie to MTB, the rear suspension gives me confidence on rockier descents. The disc brakes give me confident stopping power and I feel comfortable and in control on the bike, even when night riding! With 100mm of travel, it is a fairly short-travel full suspension bike but I have found it more than enough for the type of riding I do. I think it would best suit someone who enjoys mainly cross country. I think the bike would be improved with the additon of a dropper seatpost. Although a little heavy for the CX (can't say I particularly enjoyed running with it and lifting it up over obstacles!) I will say the tyres gripped well even in some extremely muddy cyclo-cross conditions, giving me the advantage over some riders on light cyclocross frames with skinny tyres!
Don't just take my word for it- The bike is available to demo from Ride Bikes Wales for a deposit of £30. This would be deducted from the purchase of a new bike.
You may have to fight me for it, though!
