Today three riders from Eurocaps MTB bike club will be setting off from Holyhead on Anglesey to cycle the full length of Route 8- over 255 miles all the way to Cardiff Bay.
This is all in aid of Cyclists Fighting Cancer and the Case Family.
Read on to see their story and how you can get involved...
Four year old Cian Case underwent surgery for a tumour on the spine in late November 2015 at Noah's Ark Children's Hospital, Cardiff.
Cian had a rare and aggressive cancer called AT/RT which was also shown to be present in his brain.
The surgery left Cian paralysed below the waist and his parents were told he was unlikely ever to walk again.
Cian has been bravely going through treatment to kick cancer with the support of his friends and family.
He has had 6 weeks of radiotherapy on the brain and spine & 8 courses of intense chemotherapy. This is tough for any adult to endure, but Cian is a fighter.
The great news is that Cian also received daily physiotherapy and he has shown remarkable and unexpected recovery in his movement.
Cian came walking into RBW the other day- which is amazing! Although he is still a little unsteady on his feet, this is huge progress and far more than was predicted for him at the start of his treatment.
To further aid his recovery a charity called Cyclists Fighting Cancer is funding a bespoke trike for Cian to build strength and stamina in his lower limbs whilst also being able to enjoy rides with his family.
As we in the cycling community know, cycling has many physical and social benefits, and there is no doubt that Cian's recovery will be greatly aided with a trike.
Cycling Wales for Cian
Martin Carroll, Carl Harbord and Dave Probert are setting off from Holyhead this afternoon and will be cycling the length of Wales, over 255 miles to fundraise for this fantastic charity so they can keep on transforming the lives of children recovering from cancer.
You can get involved by sponsoring the team on their Justgiving page.
The team would also love it if keen and responsible riders would like to join them for the last leg from Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre (starting at 11:00 on Sunday 4th September) to Cardiff Bay.
(Please note riders are responsible for themselves.)
