ABOUT US
Rocky Mountain Cycles was born in the summer of 2000, a long time dream becoming a reality.
After living in the Colorado Rockies for a number of years, my wife, Kerry and I became hooked on riding the mountain trails. We were in heaven, Skiing all winter and riding all summer on the same terrain including Vail, Winterpark, Breckenridge, Steamboat Springs etc and of course many Sundays were spent in Moab, Utah riding the "Slickrock". We started mountain biking in the early 80's, you know the kit, steel frames and thumb shifters etc, "ahh….the good ole days".
I've been racing off-road motorcycles for over 20 years and mountain biking was the ideal way to keep fit and improve bike handling skills.
After working a number of summers as a bike mechanic in Turin Cycles, one of the largest bicycle stores in Denver, Colorado, my dream of starting my own bicycle business was firmly established in my mind, even down to the name of the business, hence "Rocky Mountain Cycles". It was at Turin, my wheel building skills were finely tuned and perfected.
When the opportunity arose to start my own bicycle shop, I jumped at the chance and have never looked back. From the start it was a priority for me to provide the limitless levels of enthusiasm and service which had become second nature whilst living and working in the States. 20 years of experience and expertise, along with a casual, friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy a cup of coffee and meet other enthusiasts, plan rides etc has created the environment I envisioned.
Our business is not just aimed at mountain bikes. We have great support from the "roadies" the # 1 time trialist in Wales can be counted as a regular customer along with many from the local clubs, including the Port Talbot Wheelers, Ogmore Valley Wheelers and Maesteg Cycling Club. We also have strong links with the Welsh Triathlon association,we supply Richard Jones with his bikes and keep them in race ready condition and have many top level and up and coming triathletes visiting us regularly.
When time permits, you may see me at a local Acme club '10' time trial , however you are more likely to see us riding the singletrack trails in these great Welsh hills and mountains.
